POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY
The Touring Van Driver/Guide Non-CDL driver assigned vehicles and host excursions for Interior Alaska guests; safely navigating Interior and Arctic roads while offering interpretive information to guests. This position requires the ability to operate 12-15 passenger tour vans on various road conditions while providing knowledgeable, interpretive commentary of Interior features and history. Our Guides must enjoy spending time with multiple guests in conditions that require excellent teaching, communication and guest service skills.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Safe and proper operation of company equipment in all types of weather conditions
Up to 10 hours driving (15 hours total work) on various types of road conditions (dependent on tour type)
Maintaining professionalism while working outdoors in extreme weather conditions and during vehicle breakdowns
Providing courteous guest service
Providing a knowledgeable, interpretive commentary of tour information and Interior history
Leading guided tours
Keeping tours on a time schedule, must be punctual
Prompt and correct completion of all required reports
Representing the Company in a positive manner
Responsible for a clean and neat appearance
Understanding of vehicles basic performance fluids, such as oil, brake, transmission and window washer fluids
Other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS
Indoor/outdoor working environment
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS FOR SUCCESS
At least 5+ years driving experience
Clean driving record.
Communicate effectively through speech and hearing
Good reading and comprehension skills to research tour information.
Able to organize information about tour product
Judgment and leadership to keep your tour on a semblance of a schedule.
Physical Requirements
Must physical requirements
Simultaneously steer a vehicle, accelerate, brake pedals, and give commentary while driving
Able to bend, twist, and lift up to 50 lbs. simultaneously and repeatedly.
Withstand up to 10 hours of consecutive driving on rough and/or icy roads.
Able to work outdoors in variable weather, including rain, sleet, snow, direct sunlight,
high winds, and temperatures ranging from -60° degrees to +100° degrees Fahrenheit.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
High school diploma or equivalent
